There are many considerations to make when choosing your camping equipment, but one important item to consider is lighting. This is especially important if you’re camping out in a truly dark place, but even if camping requires a short hike to get to your campsite, lighting is still a smart choice. If you’re camping where it’s sunny, you don’t want to waste a lot of daylight without proper lighting.
But even if your campsite is already well lighted, camping LED lights are a worthy investment, especially if you enjoy reading, walking, or preparing food late into the night. Proper lighting also helps keep everything organized and secured, and you can even keep your campsite safe with camping light displays too!
If the dark and the outdoors don’t bother you, you may want to check out solar lights; but for the rest of us, proper lighting is a must have. There is nothing worse than trying to get ready for a day of boating, hiking, or fishing and your little LED light can’t cut it; trust us, you’ve experienced this, and we don’t want you to have to experience it again.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are the best lanterns for camping?
Firstly, you will need to decide what type of lantern you need. Do you want a lantern that can be suspended or one that can be placed on a table or hung from a tree?
If you are the type of camper that lounges around at night, a suspended lantern will keep you and your friends in the light.
However, if you are the type of camper that feels it is important to be able to grab your tent lines in the middle of the night to secure the camp, you will need to hang lanterns up.
Next, you have to decide how many LED lights you want. You can opt for one big LED light or two medium LED lights.
Finally, you have to decide how much you want to spend; this will be a big factor in your selection. Lanterns are truly a personal camping purchase. There is a bit of price range for all of your needs.
What is the best lantern for power outages?
First off, it doesn't make sense to buy a lantern if you're not going to use it where there is no electricity.
That said, there is a huge difference between the type of lantern and their brightness. If you need one of the lights for power outages, then you really want one of the brightest LED lanterns. (Think: lighthouse brightness).
How does the brightness of a lantern affect the replacement battery life? Simple: most of the cheaper lanterns use batteries in series. This means that the same battery lights multiple LEDs. Not to worry though, there is a simple solution; buy a lantern with individual batteries for each LED. No matter how bright it is, you won't have to replace the whole lantern to replace the batteries.
As a result, we tend to use a very bright lantern for power outages. You can light up the entire room without having to turn on the entire house.
What is the brightest camping lantern?
Your best bet will probably be the Coleman Quad LED Lantern. The four LEDs in this camping lantern have a combined maximum output of 75 lumens. That may not sound that bright, but that is more light than it seems. The lantern has a "low" setting which can run for about 48 hours on three D-cell batteries (or 30 hours on the high setting), and a "high" setting that can run for 12 hours on three D-cell batteries (or six hours on the low setting). The lantern has an auto-off feature that activates after 15 minutes of inactivity. It may not seem like much, but 15 minutes is a long time for a lantern to run until it turns off automatically, so take advantage of that! It also has three red LEDs on the bottom of the lantern that can be used as a night light for sleeping.
How bright is 1000 lumens lantern?
The brightness rating (or lumen) of a lantern, is an assessment of it's ability to illuminate everything in it's path. In other words, how far down a path or across an area that you can see while using it.
Light Distance: the 1000 lumen lantern, when placed on the high setting will allow you to see about 20 – 25 feet.
When you're shopping for camping LED lights, it is important to consider more than just the bulb cost. Durability, ease of use, and how well the light is generated are some important considerations. Some of the products we found had LED lights that were not bright enough to light up a campsite, and others had fragile glass globes.
Our continually-updated list includes the latest information on which lights pass muster after the latest testing and which have already been eliminated. If you want to avoid spending your money on worthless products, our top 15 list is a good place to start.
